Chianti Retreat

This traditional Tuscan farmstead overlooking the Chianti countryside was reconstructed into a holiday retreat by the client, with the clear purpose to turn it into an oasis of peace and relaxation.

The design defines various kind of relationship with the outdoor, the views and the landscape. Gardens, terraces and an infinity pool have been organized around the house to maximize the views over the secluded valleys, unchanged since medieval times, giving the sensation of being completely removed from the modern world.

The infinite pool, that blurs into the surrounding landscape, is strongly characterized by its materiality: travertine flowing into water, travertine sounding through the Spheres omnidirectional sound modules, providing an intense sense of emotional belonging to the site.

Around the house the sound narrative continues through various sound modules hidden into bushes and vegetation, while Black Helmets, the A.S. suspended and directional sound modules, are hanging from the tall and old Mediterranean pines, defining a detached “sonic and shaded” area.
